Dacor Viper America airflow adjustment?

After hearing good stuff about the Viper America regulator, I went ahead and bought one for a good price. I have now had over 10 dives with it, and I am noticing that when I take a breath, it feels like the regulator is forcing air into my lungs. I am decent with air management, but this thing feels like I am getting forced to breath. I have used my octopus, a cheapo, as comparison and have had significantly better air consumption. From what I have read, there is no way to adjust the viper, it is "self adjusting" with all kinds of fancy technology. Is there anyway to adjust airflow in this thing? Or do I have to use my octopus as my primary and waste the more expensive viper to my octopus? Thanks.

I have a viper too. It's a good reg. Not up there with my Scubapro nor my Apex but I still dive it quite often at the lake.

As far as adjustments, What you want to do is remove the 2nd stage from the LP hose. Look into the 2nd stage and you will find that you can slide a Hex wrench into it. Turning it will either make the reg "more sensitive" or "less sensitive". I can't remember which way to turn the Hex wrench but only turn it about 1/4 turn. Hook it back to the LP hose then take a breath. Repeat until you get it like you want.
