It was a wonderful spring day here yesterday, so I decided to play hookey from work and look for new and wondorous trinkets at several of the local dive shops. I heard a couple of references to 'too bad about Dacor' in various conversations as if they assumed that I knew what they were refering to. Did I miss something, or did my poor hearing once again :06: translate 'Save the Whales' into 'Shave the Whales?'

Dacor was acquired by Mares. It's been in a state of limbo for a while now, as nobody knows whether any of the Dacor products will still be around. Also, Mares is not supporting the older Dacor regs, so lot's of people are mad at Mares. Some people even say Mares just did it to buy Dacor's patents, and has never had any intention of reviving the Dacor name.

Like the people said, too bad about Dacor.

The fact they aren't supporting the old regs did make several folks mad. The reason is that now the dive shops can't get service kits for annual service of regulators or repair if needed. So if you own an older Dacor reg, and it breaks, it's worthless. Since you can't get service kits, it makes it pretty worthless to start with. So you have to buy a new regulator because of it. Divers being upset about this sure aren't going to buy a replacement regulator that is either Dacor or Mares now.

I've seen to many people with older Dacor regs get pissed when I couldn't service them because I can't get the parts. I wouldn't buy a old or new Dacor reg. Plus, I don't think the newer ones are much good anyway.

there have been many threads about the problems at dacor (70450, 37606,75084, 70907, 76627) ...... Problems after the takeover started when Dacor deceided not to support any regulator made before 2000. This upset many divers who had Dacor products that carried a "lifetime" parts and warranty agreement. Regulators that were just a few years old suddenly became almost worthless because of the lack of parts to service them. models like the Pacer 360 could use parts from U.S.D. Conself series and most 2nd stages would take generic parts (like O rings and hoses, clamps, ect) to keep them running. Mares/Dacor has come out with a trade in plan where you could trade in an older model for a fee but many divers are still upset and say it's not enought.

Yes, AFAIK the Viper and Eagle lines are being supported.

Good to know, thanks. Just have to send out these warranties now.

Come on now what did Thumper's Dad tell him? If one can't say nothing nice, don't say nothing at all. I use a Viper for "everyday use" and I love it. I have a few other regs like the Oceanic Omega, and a few ScubaPro's but for shore dives (Lobster Hunting) I really like this unit the best.
