My suggestion would be to attempt to try out a few different types of BC's.. you most likely have experience with jacket BC's, try out a couple more, try out a back inflate or two, try out a bp/wing and see what works for you. Just try to keep in mind exactly how functional everything is *underwater* and not how it looks on land.
My preference is for bp/wing, but I dive cold Northern water. Lots of people use them down on the beaches, but I haven't so I don't feel comfortable recommending them to those who do
