I've been taking notes on these answers... ah, in case I ever write a paper on something like this.

Next dive on July 23rd. :eyebrow: Will update.

Well.... SHEESHHH!!!

Was I narked, or what???

Today opened up, so I took Tony up to dive the Train Wreck with me, and all was not as I remembered.

The first car, which I said was partially burred and totally enclosed, was not only not enclosed and not buried, but the only thing left of the first car was really just the floor of the car.

What I had thought was the solid roof of the car was actually the floor. The walls and roof are gone. A little bit of the wall was draped over the side, which I guess made me think I was looking at a solid roof.

Anyway, there's nothing to cut into, not secrets to find, no treasures within.

Ah, nuts.

What's odd is that my original Buddy, Bob, saw it the same as I did. I don't know, maybe the fact that the vis was 5' on the first dive and 20' today, and that I knew what I was looking at this time...

The second car is as I remembered, and you can still swim into it and it's cool and everything, but...

There'll be no cutting on this one.

Well, at least you have your notes for the next train car you find!

man.... i was all worked up to see what ya found..
o well

Ah ha! I knew it was a ruse. He's headed for Ft. Knox. Citizens arrest! Citizens arrest!

Haha. You're the Geraldo Rivera of the diving world.

Just kidding, I feel bad for ya. Look at this way, atleast you didn't go to any trouble to find out there was nothing to find.

I use Hydraulic Chainsaws to cut wood. The company I work for uses Stanley hyd. Chainsaw with 20" blades. 2000psig with hoses that are in 50' sections. For the Iron in the Car, use Broco Underwater cutting rods with 160amp and 100psig O2 over ambient water pressure.
The chainsaw will cut a nice square hole (or whatever other crappy job the diver does) of 6'x6' in 15min. Not too much trouble in 120' of water....Bill

Rick Inman:
#1. Not saying I'm going to do it, but, hypothetically, what is the best way to cut through the water-logged wood at 110'?
Does your dive knife have serrated edge?

no one mentioned all of the volunteer human bombs still waiting thier turn over in
iraq. Maybe you could talk one of those guys into going down and simply laying on the top. OH well to late anyhow seeing as there is no top.

bummer it was the opposite of what you thought.

Did anyone who dove the doria complain about going into Gimble's hole??? you talk about the incorrectness of cutting into a box car ,,, Ya know for sure the doria had bodies go down with it 50+ what about penetrainting U 853 ,, via a depth charge hole. Lots of info on that wreck and bones on the FLOOR of it .. a freight car which either fell of a barge or was dumped ,, come on ,, lighten up guys! Its a great hobby and we all wish to find some unknown wreck and dig around in it for goodies! would you think twice if you found an un charted wood sailing ship with no massive pile of ballast stones or would you think OMG i bet there is gold in there it was carrying a ton of weight!
