You're probably seeing ones that reflect group memberships.

I thought you were being ironic at first since your title says "Hitchhiker." I am apparently meant titles when I wrote badges. For instance, I am a Regular Member. I can opt in to become a Solo Diver also. I had the impression that some of the more unique titles were created by the individual.

OK, to create your own user title, you need to be SB Staff or a Supporting Member.
