For those of you that just got back from the Caribe Blu, did anyone do any shore diving in front of the hotel? If so, would you recommend it?

We're currently packing and are wondering if it would be worth our time to do a weight check and spend a little bit of time furthering our skills. (We're travelling with some non-divers and are hoping to be able to grab an afternoon shore dive or two while they're snorkeling.)

I tried one last month. I was pretty bored with it. Maybe I didn't find the good areas, tho. Looked like more snorkeling activity about 50 yards south, but I never went down to try that.

Don't try to be too cheap after going all that way. Book boat dives. :D

it was pretty bare, but i did see quite a bit of stuff.

spotted ray, a few lobsters, angelfish, boxfish, puffers, a lot of corals, cleaner shrimp on corals, a few small morray eels, etc.

it was fun and relaxing.

take a light and do a twilight dive out there. you'll see more stuff.

i actually had 2 pretty good dives out there, at first it looks pretty barron, lack of seafans and corals are slowly recovering, but once we started poking around, we found a lot of life.

trying to get my full trip report together, more in there.

It definitely is not what it once was, but there are still a few things to see. The anchor points for the floats have some life around them, and if you go out to the further one and then head south a hundred yards or so, you'll find some small coral heads and a few somewhat bedraggled sea fans. It would be worth a drift down from Villablanca if the current is running.

Thanks for the updates. Looking forward to the reports, but we're probably going to leave before they're up. Sounds like south is definitely the way to head. Personally, I'm more than happy to just see some fish and get a chance to brush up on my skills.

As much as I'd love to do a few more boat dives, we've already agreed with our travelling partners to not spend every afternoon on the boats. Hopefully we can convince them that diving is something they want to take up so we don't have this issue in the future!
