OMG, I did forget about Will's The tasting menu is to die for! Wills is located in town across the street from Sunbelt Realty, or there abouts.

When it comes to food, Bonaire is just "okay" IMHO. After all, a simple pizza joint is consistently listed as it's top restaurant. That said, even as a NYC pizza snob, I rather like Pasa Bon Pizza and find it to have a nice mix of home made/chain restaurant pizza taste. It's yummie! I have wanted to try their lasagna the last 5 or so visits cuz I hear it is awesome but for some strange reason they NEVER seem to have it the nights I go. Maybe next time (fingers crossed).

We like La Guernica also. It's a nice tapas bar on the water. Cactus Blue is pretty darn good too. We'll pass on Patagonia if you recall PA DIver, that's where we had the gasoline tasting filet last time we were all there and the harbor smelled like low tide that night. Maybe just a very bad night for them but enough to make me wanna pass next time. Another good one is Bistro De Paris. Very tasty and reasonably priced lunches. If you want meat and more meat, try Casa Blanca. While we have never had a meal served to us there in under one hour it seems, it always pleases. Of course, we also like El Fagon. Basic, reasonable, tasty. My wife loves BobbeJans. Cheap, quick, and tasty. I like the corner table at the Lion's Den. Basic stuff but always tasty as well. For more local fare, try Mi Banana. Much like El Fagon. Personally, I have some of my best meals eating where the locals eat on Bonaire. More charm, more tasty, less cost, and more "Bonaire." I have found the more expensive places in Bonaire to be less consistent and very much a hit or miss experience.

I keep missing Will's and will try to get there this next trip. I have heard good things!

Food is a VERY personal thing and places have bad nights and good nights so your mileage will vary of course. One Man's trash is another Man's treasure.

I'm funny when it comes to pizza and Italian because we have so many good places locally. I will probably not go out of my way to eat it while on the island. That said, the best made plans while on vacation tend to take a back seat to spontaneity. Scubadoobadoo, I remember the fillet, just plain nasty. We tend to seek out the local places while on vacation so we will try to hit as many as possible. As for Will's, too many people have raved about it to ignore. As was stated, food is very personal/subjective and after a day of diving, sometimes a simple burger or slice of pizza can't be beat.

Heading to Bonaire next week--first time! I see a lot of talk of pizza, Italian, burgers, steak, etc. Isn't there any food that is typical of the ABC's? I realize that most of the food has to be imported, and the island lives and breathes for the dive industry, but there has to be something more local, no? I mean, when in Jamaica I eat jerk, in the Bahamas it's conch and souse and .... You get the point. What should I look for in Bonaire? We're actually going to Curacao first, so I guess I will figure out Netherlands Antilles specialties there. I hear there's a huge ostrich farm on Curacao. Mmm.

Other good local food :
Antriol Catering off the Lageon Road on Kaya Mariana

Divi Divi Bar & restaurant
Kaya Korona to Botica Korona its on Kaya Gregorio Hernandez --Louis is the best always go visit here. He used to be downtown

take out--Liza's
Surinamese food out of her house on weekends. Her house is on Kaya Chipewa off Kaya Amsterdam
I also do take out at the Peking foods okay but its local hang out spot.

I would say goat stew and iguana stew are two popular local dishes. but if you go Antriol Catering,Maiky Snack or Divi Divi Bar & restaurant you are eating local food no matter what you order.

Excellent answers to my "eating local" question--thanks!
