Hi all,
Was in Curacao from 12th-20th of August.
Made 15 dives in 6 days. Incl. 1 night dive
#'s 12-26 for myself, (give me time).
Water temp was 82 degrees.
Maximum depth of 82 ft.
Visibility ranged from 50 to 100 ft depending on the day and location. Lower vis was caused by a tropical storm - 1 day only.
Dived with Easy Divers @ Habitat.
Stayed at Habitat Curacao. Nice Dive resort. House reef was in excellent condition with little to no current so you could explore the reef in both directions with ease. Frogfish to the right from the dock, 6ft Green Morey eel to the left, just ask around. The "Divers Highway" a rope that extends from the dock to 90 FSW on the house reef makes the house reef a no-brainer in terms of navigation. If your a beginner diver doing navigation, shore diving, night diving, or diving without a DM for the first time, it's a very comforting place to dive. Favorite sites visited Mushroom Forest, Porto Marie, Bullenbai. All the diving Freedom stuff on their site... all true. They let you dive your own profile, plan, etc. on the boat, or you can go with DM. Tanks always available, but $8 each for Nitrox, which by the way we're always between 31.9 and 32.5. We never had more than 14 on the boat and if there were more than 8 signed up for the morning boat they always offered an afternoon boat as well. I got the boat dives to make sure my wife didn't get lazy on me. If you are experienced at shorediving, there is no need to get the boat dives. All the Boat Diving sites were accesible form shore. It was nice to have a DM though so you don't miss the best best parts of each site. I was very happy with the dive opperation.
Food - OK, priced reasonably, get's boring over a week
Bar - Good drinks, happy hour each evening
Room - OK, clean. I'd get the garden view, we had the ocean view
Rent a car, Habitat is about 20 minutes from town, you'lll want a car to make beer runs, head to town for dinner, explore the island or go shorediving. Personally, on this island, I'd do all my exploring below the surface. Willemstad is worth a visit.
I gotta go do research on Cozumel and Cayman...
Regards,
G
