As promised before I want to comment quickly on other cool dive sites around the island that I've visited.
REDIHO
We did Rediho on a boat dive with OEW. This was apart from Watamula my favourite boat dive with them. The reef at Rediho is excellent, and I have posted several photos, just take a look at the album. Doing boat dives with OEW is fun, especially with Tuki, the boat driver, on board who is always up for a laugh and some funny remarks on anything he sees. Even if I still didn't find the rum he recommended me to buy...
ELVIN'S PLANE WRECK
The wreck of an Fokker 27 was submerged here a few years ago and used to be a major attraction in the northwest of Curacao. It is located two minutes north of OEW dive center, reachable only by boat (or if you want to take a looong swim). Lamentably it was torn apart by a hurricane and broke in two. The cockpit was fully destroyed so now you cannot even dive "into" the wreck - but it's still nice to see. Be sure not to touch anything, the wreck moves with the waves and there are sharp edges everywhere.
TARPOON CITY
That was a fun dive. We went to Tarpoon City with a guided scooter dive from the dive center Scuba Do in Jan Thiel Beach. The divesite is reported to have strong currents, and it is located near the port entrance so you want to know where you're going.
Scooter diving was fun & easy, we entered the water at a pier in Punda, next to the big parking by the sea, and then made our way to the two poles guarding the port canal entrance. The tarpoons use to stay near these two poles, so we did a couple of circles there, and found them finally. Impressive big fish, but we had too little remaining time to contemplate them further.
PLAYA LARGU / LONG BEACH
This beach is located on a private Plantation called San Juan. You have to turn on the road between Westpunt and St. Willibrordus on a dirt road, follow it to the Landhuis (plantation house) where a guy stands and takes 5 Guilders for the entrance fee. Then you follow the dirt road and stay on the left side all the time. It is a long way and the road can be pretty bad, but finally you'll get to a mangrove forest and then to this beautiful beach. It is full of coral, and entrance can be tricky. But the visibility and quality of the reef is superb. The white sand creates an excellent light down there.
PLAYA LAGUN
Located in the northwest, one beach next to Playa Jeremi. This is a great divesite especially for beginners and snorkelers. If you stay on the left side and dive along the rocks, you will see two caves you can enter. Lobsters are hidden in the back part of the cave, so be sure to take a flashlight! This dive usually is not very deep but beautiful due to the flat sand bottom and the many coral-covered rocks. Also, it is a sure spot to see turtles - on one dive alone I saw three of them. Eagle rays are also reported to be in this area (although I have never seen one).
KLEINE KNIP
A nice small beach where usually locals accumulate on the weekends and hang out. Excellent shore dive with good visibility. Be sure to leave nothing in the car. We heard of several attempts to steal things here.
PLAYA SANTA CRUZ
The beach is beautiful and usually there are no people. As a shore dive, I can not recommend it though. You have to swim about 20 minutes out to get close to the reef, and it's a strange feeling to be in the middle of nowhere with your diving gear on and the boats are passing by. The reef is beautiful, though, and we saw turtles and other bigger fish there.
