I see Andreas and diversteve have given good info here again.

Curacao has a lot of employment in areas not directly connected to tourism, as an industrial and logistics / shipping nexus port area, more similar to Aruba since both Curacao and Aruba have running petroleum refineries and terminaling storage, while Bonaire has only terminaling storage at BOPEC, and the salt works, as major employers outside of tourism or tourism spin-off. So, Curacao hasn't required the same level of marketing as a dive destination - but it's getting there - I see multiple Curacao based advertisements in our regular issues of the scuba magazines we receive. And the Curacao NOW promotion is a far more aggreesive marketing effort than I've ever seen from Bonaire - I've never seen Bonaire offer $200 per person airfare rebates etc. to attract tourism.

We like Curacao more becuase of the ability to do other things than dive. (though...we never got to anything other than diving come to think about it) We took others with us and they loved all the fun things to do, butterfly farm, mountain biking, distillery tours....( non divers....pah what were we thinking) lol they were so much fun. We did 25 dives in 12 days, we got lazy a couple of days, and Cheddarguy got a migraine one day so we only got in 1 dive that day. I can highly recommend the following: The Dive Bus, Port Marie, The Rib Factory, The Dive Bus, Curacao Sunshine's Pizza on a great deck overlooking the ocean, Pier Baai for a night dive, Elly at Caribbean Sea Sports at the Marriott. Grab an official dive & drive map when you first get there, and start exploring.....It is so easy, pm me if you need any help
PS Warm......I bet you can't wait to get packed.....

And not a single mention of me cheddarchick...

... I am distraught!

We stayed at Habitat last year and rented a cheap YARIS (mee, meep). We did AM boat dives everyday and in the afternoon we either leisurely rolled around the corner to Porto Marie or hauled butt to Westpunt for shore diving. Watch out for goats on those hills! I would do boat and vehicle to venture out on your own. Only minor bug with Easy Divers at Habitat was that the boat broke down once or twice. One day we thought we were going to have to make a short swim back to the dock when they couldn't bring us in any further. I read on some other threads that they recently borrowed a boat from Habitat on Bonaire. Boats themselves were fine, it was mechanical problems. They were pretty full though all week we were there. We really appreciated the small group/boat we had with Ocean Encounters West in Westpunt at Watamula & Mushroom Forrest (not to be missed).

OK, sure we're biased but we think Curacao ROCKS for shore diving, independently or otherwise!

There's HEAPS of info on our website for independent divers here: The Dive Bus - Independent Shore Diving, Curacao

And dive site info here: The Dive Bus - Shore Diving Sites

And if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask, no charge and no obligation to use The Dive Bus. We just want folks to have a great time diving here in Curacao :o)

All best,
Suzy
