A couple of things....
A guilder is worth 57 cents, round it off to 60. To find out how much your guilder purchase is in dollars, multiply by 6 and divide by 10. In other words, 10 guilders is approx. 6 dollars. Or memorize a few rounded dollar amounts $10 = 17.50 guilders and $20 = 35 guilders. Your choice of math.
As everywhere there is a very small problem with charge cards. No one will feel insulted if you follow them to watch the card transaction and immediately take your card. They use swipe machines here, take the carbon. I have even heard of a scam at the ATMs. I only heard this from one person but I don't want it to happen to you. Hold your hand over the keypad when you enter the pin code. From what I hear, you might want to make this a practice every time you use your card in the States. Please check your statements 2 months after you get back from vacation, again, after every vacation.
You can use dollars or guilders every where but no one will accept US coins or 100 dollar bills except the hotels, high end restaurants and probably the dive shops. Please bring smaller denominations. You might have a hard time using travelers checks. No make that you will have a hard time using your travelers checks except at the places listed above. You will get your change back in guilders.
You can also change your money (but really not necessary) at the banks and at the casinos.

Thanks. It's a combo of the ST delta shield and the ship. i loved, loved Curacao. You got to go the westend for the best diving. A schlep out there (45 mins from town) but WELL worth it

Some stay out West and schlep to Willemstad on their no dive day. wink wink

I don't know where you are staying Lori, but Ocean Encounters West has a coral spawning presentation and night dive on Thursday the 10th in Westpunt. I'm sure Habitat has a dive planned and I believe Mark and Suzy at The Dive Bus have a few. You've timed it well.
