Ct. divers (shellbird, Doder, saltywater..)

I'm bringing the wife and kids to visit my sister in-law in Southington, Ct. the weekend of 8/1. I would like to get at least 1 or 2 tank dive in while down there and looking for someone to buddy with. I have no clue where to dive in Ct. (Stonington, Waterford? The types of sites I'm interested in are rocky sites w/ some depth. (not shallow 10-15 sandy..)

My brother-in-law may be able to join me. He's likely be looking to take it easy. (Just accepting fact that he's getting OLD!)

Let me know if any of you would be interested in joining me, send me a PM. Willing to do eve. dive if only time can dive.

Luis

Neither Stonington or Waterford will give you the Rocky bottom with depth requirement. Both are mostly sandy bottom and less than 20 feet. They can both be OK for night dives. Stonington winning out on that. To get depth at Stonington, you need to go out a ways and then you will end up in the shipping channel. (Not recommended). At Waterford, you need to go out really far and then end up diving Mud or Sand.

The bugs (insects, not lobsters) were pretty brutal on the surface at Waterford 2 weeks ago when I last did that one at night. Lots of spider crabs and quite a few flounder. But only 18 feet max at high tide.

No wonder you Ct. folks come up here a lot. Explains willingness to drive long distances.. Need to think about this.. May need to come up w/ excuse to stay up here!

Bugs at Stonington are ok. . .mostly undersized. Stonington diving is off limits during the day because of the life guards.

I think in a couple weeks we are definitely going to have to make another trip up to Mass. for some diving. We may come up the eve before. . .Maybe for a John Harvard's meeting on a Friday evening then do some diving on Sat.

All pending work schedules. . .

IF you don't mind a shallow easy dive, we could do a night dive at Stonington on the 1st. . .

Depending on what part of Southington you are visiting.

Come dive my lake! Or just come by for a visit, refreshments abound... PM me if you can work it in you itinerary.

Ft. Wetherill is a really great spot and the closest to Southington. Although all those sharks off Narragansett is kind of scary.

We'll likely be driving down Fri eve so I'm avail Sat. I've always wanted to try Ft. Wetherill though it's a haul from where we'll be (Southington).

From what everyone has posted here about Stonington, Waterford, it doesn't sound like it's worth diving if you can't bug hunt.

If anyone is going out Sat, let me know and I'll try to join. (Lake or Ocean)
