Fire Diving is indeed dangerous!
How long did you search for that link? That was by far in the top 5 of the dumbest things I have ever read. lol

My wife is a open water diver with less than 15 dives since her certification. We were watching the show. My wife states, "The burst disc would have blown."

That's all I gotta say bout that . . .

On one CSI they found a skinned, headless gorilla that had been thrown out of an airplane.

I don't know where you got this gorilla stuff, but we do have Black Helicopters. Everyone knows they're hidden in Manitou Springs and they're responsible for all our cattle mutilations.

Wait a minute. We have Black Helicopters flying around northern Michigan. And Lawman is from Michigan. Could this be just a coincidence? I don't think so.

Have you ever put a empty but sealed glass bottle in a camp fire? It goes BOOM really loud and there is not much left of it when all is said and done, you are lucky if you can find the cap!! NOW lets take a 80cu SCUBA tank and heat that to the point of exploision. 1st of all the diver would be dead from heat exposure way before the tank went boom. 2nd IF and when the tank does go POP there wouldn't be much left of tank OR diver to find, maybe a limb here, shreds of BC or tank over there, peice of body there, thats about all you would find, you wouldn't find a whole intack body in tree. If you don't believe it, I can set up an experiment for you but you be the test dummy

Thanks for peaking my curiosity, Quarrior - that was indeed one of the dumbest things I've read, too... (including some of my own posts!)

Natural selection as it exists in the 21st century. Gotta love it - don't think we'll see it as a PADI specialty anytime soon (unless they strike up a deal with a helicopter co)

wacdiver,

Well written theory, however, it's flawed. Glass and aluminum or steel do not have the same properties, therefore would react differently when exposed to high heat.

Glass generally would explode as you stated. However, metal will expand to a point where a fissure develops and explode at that particular point. The fissure would develop from the inside on the opposite side of the heat source since that it is the point of greatest gas expansion.

The resulting explosion would not be "all consuming" as you stated. Rather it would be more like a shaped charge the military or demolitionists use. It would blow in one direction.

This is why when on the rare occasion a scuba tank has exploded, it is very easy to determine where the flaw was as there is so much evidence left over.

Please do not confuse this with a bomb. Bombs have an explosive inside them that is designed to blow in all directions at once creating shrapnel which actually does the majority of damage.
