We are taking a cruise later this month making a 1 day stop in Cabo San Lucas.

We thought there'd be a shore excursion with a 2-tank dive, however, sadly there is not.

I suggested to my father-in-law to just take a local dive shop for a 2-tank dive, but he is concerened about going with an unreliable shop and missing the boat :)

Any suggestions for a dive shop that is close by the cruise lines, and reliable as far as being on time and such? I'd really like to avoid the large crowded boats, and will pay a little more to get a smaller experience :)

Thanks!

Jason

Hello again, has anyone used "Baja Sur Tours"? I'm looking into diving with them on my cruise, and just want to see if anyone has any feedback on their experience.

Thanks!

Jason

Land's end's is the DO I dove with last august in Cabo, they were very good and very serious about what they said, they are located in the big marina in Cabo San Lucas.

HI. i will be stopping in Cabo for a one day stop next month (the first week of March). I'm wondering if you went for a dive and with which outfit and what your experience was like. I'm a fan of paying a litte more for smaller boats as well. Thanks!

Dived here last January also on a cruise. Puerto Vallarta was so bad that I was leary to do Cabo. Turned out great. I also dived with Manta, called them from a pay phone when in port at mazatlan to give them a heads up. They were cool to take us out as soon as we got there. I was blown away. I have dove all over Mexico. Most operators are just okay. Manta was one of the most professional operators I have dove with. They also had very nice rental gear. I am a PADI OWSI so I understand the difficulties of leading dives. These guys were great. We did close dive sights due to the time constraints. We did Pelican rock and then another spot just off the cliffs adjacent to lovers beach. When we got off the cruise ship tenders we grabbed a water taxi from the marina to the beach where the dive shop was located. After the dives Manta dropped us off at lovers beach so we could meet up with freinds. It worked out great. One post mentioned they had a place where the cruise ship dropped them off? Perhaps they have a new location since Jan 2009? Whatever the case I would STRONGLY recommend this operator. I would dive Cabo again for sure when I go back. It's worth your time just don't expect carribean type conditions.

sounds like Manta it is..
I'm rather fond of Mantas :) When you say don't expect carribean conditions are you referring to temperature and vis? Thanks!

Another vote for Manta- We went out with them last September on a cruise stop as well. Nice folks.

Let them know you're on the cruise and what time the ship arrives and departs and they'll get you set up.

Colder water, much worse viz, (worst day I have ever had in any carribean location was much better than Cabo), less variety of fish, few if any corals, less light. But it still is noce and worth your time. Big schools of fish are fun to swim through, go slow and you will see lots of cool stuff. Saw about 5 or 6 large rays in the sand near pelican rock. Go slow you'll see plenty.

As has been noted you really need to contact Manta before hand so they can plan for you and be sure to get you out and back in time.
