I'm not blaiming anyone here and what I am about to say has nothing to do with this accident directly but since we are bashing cruise ships and such.... What I will say is that diving with a cruise ship operator has been a horrible experience for me almost EVERY time. I remember one guy who convinced a dive op to let him dive eventhough he hadn't been diving in 20 years, didn't have his c-card, and didin't have a clue. They let him dive, he kicked me, he kicked others, he kicked the reef, and he kicked up early after he ran his tank almost dry. Good times. Good times. Most of us divers eventually learn to hate the pod people and can't believe we ever were one in the first place. Do some research. Cruise ships are floating toilets that discharge into our precious oceans and run into reefs annually. I have even worked on them and that really soured my opinion. Cruise ship diving...ACK! I want to vomit when I am in Cayman, Cozumel, or Bonaire and I see a cruise ship coming!

Catch the op on a slow day with fewer cruise ship in port and they can be much better. On a busy day, like most, you run the risk of diving with bomb shells on scuba.

Coudn't agree more! A dive buddy who won't stay with you, is just someone else swimming in the same ocean. (He was military, what do you expect)
