Will be in GC this October via a cruise ship. I think the west end. More into scuba than cruising and found this to be a economical way to dive in more expensive areas. Looking for a OP that will work with people coming off the cruise ships but must be safe and professional. Any recommendations? I was going to use the cruise forum but looked kinda dead.

Don Foster's.

I'm not sure if this helped the OP. I am looking for someone other than a cattle boat catering to vacation divers. Even though I too will be cruising to get to four different dive locales in a week, I'm trying to find an independent dive op who will work with my schedule. Any other suggestions?

From donfosters.com

Don Foster’s Dive has the dive contract with the following cruiselines;

  • CARNIVAL
  • HOLLAND AMERICAN
  • REGENT
  • P&O
  • CRYSTAL CRUISES
  • PRINCESS
As our boats are reserved exclusively for the ships in port we are unfortunately not able to book you independently even if you are traveling on a ship we deal with. These are the terms of our contract.

Hmmm - didn't know about that part. Try Jason at Ambassador Divers or Neptune Diving.

Neptune's - Casey their GM posts here as Caymancase. I've also read good things here about Jason. Both have an 8-10 diver max rule.

You'll be docking in Georgetown - although tendering in is a better description as I don't think the cruise port is finished yet - maybe not even started yet...so get up early to get off the boat first.

I just sent Casey a mail to look into some diving with Neptune's. I'm diving on Sept 29th from the cruise ship Carnival Valor. The ship uses Fosters and while that may be ok for new divers, I'm looking for some uncrowded stuff with experienced divers.

Thanks for the pointers guys.

:)

You may find "uncrowded", but "experienced" is not (these days) a function of which dive op you choose. Most divers at all Cayman dive ops are relatively inexperienced.

Yeah, I thought of that as soon as I hit the send button :shakehead:

However, I had it in the back of my mind that MAYBE that would be the case. Since they have two boats and take a max of eight I might get lucky. I imagine they'll divide the group by experience.
