Oy!! :nervous: Thought I had locked in some May diving in Coz and now it looks like it might have to be around the 4th of July. My assumption is that there will be many more people, particularly divers, in Cozumel at that time. Can anyone enlighten me on the relative crowdedness (is that a word) at those two times?

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,

Seems that November through March is probably the busiest time of the time in Cozumel with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break. Also lots of people want to get away from the snow.

June, July & August are probably the second most popular months as school is out. Just remember it's hot. Bring a hat and sunscreen.

With three to seven cruise ships coming to Cozumel Monday through Saturday it doesn't really matter what time of the year you go you are going to see quite a few people.

My wife and I have been numerous times, (14 I think) and are headed back April 2 -10.
If you back off main street a few blocks you really don't notice the crowds. We closed a deal on a house so we're now taxpayers of Mexico.

As far as diving it depends on the operator. The big boats will be full. Find an operator that takes 6-8 divers and you will be much happier. We were in Cozumel two weeks ago and saw the usual number of dive boats but never had a problem being run over by other divers. Several of the sites we dove we never saw another boat.

You can have a good time regardless of when you go. If you have some more questions feel free to PM me.

Jim

I usually go in May, but I have been there in July, and I don't remember much diff in the crowdedness. It's hotter and rainier, though.

Sorry we'll miss you this time.

Cheers,

IMO it may have to do with the hurricanes last year that devastated some of the favorite diving destinations, and of course the Tsunami that struck the day after Christmas.

always enjoy going to Coz in May, Sept and Oct due to low season. Mid May is the start of low season. Sept and Oct are during Hurricane season but we have not encountered any problems yet after 5 years of going to our home away from home.

Here is basically the sched.

Dec 15th to Apr 15---High season
Apr 16th-June 20th---Low season
Jun21st-Sept 1------ High season
Sept 2-Dec 14th-----Very low season

We're looking at going in Sept or Oct based on a variety of schedule things here. Are those not good times for a Coz trip? I know that there's a chance of hurricanes and if that happens I'll cancel the trip but otherwise, is it still warm and a nice trip?
(First dive trip by the way.)

There just isn't a bad time of year to go to Cozumel. I usually go in May, but I have friends that rave about conditions there in October. I wouldn't worry too much about hurricanes; even in the height of the season, the chances of one hitting where you are, when you are there are still pretty low.
