Adjusting my crotch strap on my new HOG BP/W. I'm not in the water yet but wondering how tight it should be.
Just an odd feeling. :D

Snug. But not so tight as to turn you into a soprano or prevent you from becoming a father after you move.

Sent from an old fashioned 300 baud acoustic modem by whistling into the handset. Really.

Yes, snug.

I'm working on trim in BP/W doubles right now and can definitively say that the crotch strap needs to be snug enough that your rig stays in exactly the same place every dive.

Personally, I like mine tight enough to create a small bow downward in the waist strap when it's all fastened. By doing that, I can leave the shoulder straps a bit longer, making it easier to get in and out of the rig.

If it pulls the waist strap down from the horizontal no more than an inch or so, it's just right.

If you feel the need to tug on it for slack or it has lots of slack, it needs adjustment.

1+.

I think doing this helps "lock in" the plate against your back while in the water.

But think "comfortably snug", not "ouch, that's tight!". ;)

You should not be aware of it once in the water.

Best wishes.

Interesting answers so far. I have never had my crotch strap that tight. I keep mine just tight enough that there is no gap at the bottom. I've never needed it on single tank dives, and only barely need it with doubles at the surface. Mine basically does nothing underwater. Maybe my gut is keeping the waist-strap in place?
