This incident sounds like the latter, but the croc is described as being very large and has now attacked a human and should be killed as it now sees humans as a food source and given the opportunity, it will kill again. Croc and gator attacks are not the same as a shark mistaking a swimmer for food.
Really?
How do you know?
".....sees humans as a food source....." always sees it as a food source if it can get closer!

LOL
Hippos killed more people every yr and they are vegetarian! No need to sample human flesh first.

Take a walk in the wild in Africa and see what animals will be interested to take a bite or two of you.

Do you have American alligators or Saltwater crocodiles where you live? I'm guessing you don't or you would be aware of nuisance croc and gator programs various countries and states have to mitigate apex reptile species that no longer fear humans.

I would suggest when doing your research that you omit searching for hippos and perhaps third world countries in places like Africa.

Hyena etc would not need second invitation to eat you alive.
Why animal attack human being? Wrong place in the wrong time. Nothing to do with anything which you never have a clue ie. science.

Answer this, why is it a criminal offense in Florida to feed alligators?

On second thought, I'm going to help you out, Centrals, because internet ignorance is a shame.

Florida:

Alligators and Floridians usually have a peaceful coexistence, but there are recorded attacks and occasional fatalities. The key to staying safe is being alert to the possibility of alligators being present. Never feed gators or swim or wade in waters where large alligators are known or likely to occur, especially at dusk or night (when they naturally feed). It is illegal to feed alligators. When humans feed alligators, it causes the alligators to lose their natural fear of humans and to associate humans with food. It doesn't matter if people feed them human-food like marshmallows or throw them fish guts when cleaning fish, it's all bad. It changes the alligator's behavior.
Normally, alligators avoid humans, but alligators that have been fed by humans will move toward humans and can become aggressive. Alligators that have been fed by humans are dangerous and should be reported to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Georgia:
  • Don't feed alligators. This is a most important rule as feeding alligators threatens the safety of both people and animals. Providing food for these wild animals (that are naturally afraid of humans) not only makes them bolder and encourages them to seek out people, it also alters their natural diet in an unhealthy way. Do not feed ducks, turtles or any other animals inhabiting waters with alligators. This food source attracts the alligators as well and trains them to associate humans with foods. Lastly, do not clean fish in the water or leave your scraps or bait on the ground as that is also a potential food source for alligators. Feeding alligators is punishable by law with fines up to $150 and up to 30 days in jail.
Australia:

Do not feed crocodiles. It is illegal, dangerous, and teaches crocodiles to associate humans with food.

Wild animals!
Reptile is just a example.

Ask the the croc if they only associate humans with food if they had been fed before.
