    Hello,

We are flying into Zadar at the end of August but have a car hired so we can choose to dive near Zadar or Split.

Can anyone recommend which is better? We haven't booked accommodation yet so could also consider taking the car ferry to Solta or anywhere else in that region. We are a large mixed ability group so need fairly easy diving suitable for beginners (open water) so we can all dive together.

Any advice on the areas and recommendations for dive centres would be fantastic!

    Thanks in advance,
    Sarah

Have a look at island Murter some 50kms from Zadar towards Split, lots of nice locations (contact this center, I've used their services and was satisfied: Home). It is worth staying a couple of days as you can explore many islands and sites nearby (diving wise). You can go to the Kornati national park with them, to check out very nice walls and gorgonias that can vary from 30-70m depth. Also, there is a wreck nearby island Kaprije that bottoms out at 50m, Franceska di Rimini. Kosirina beach on the very beginning of Murter island is nice for shore dives which are shallow, good for courses as well. It is also a camping site so it might be a bit busy...

In any case, I can recommend Murter as a good starting point for diving in that area.

Stick to Zadar and nearby Dugi Otok, Kornati islands, Telascica bay. Beside the fascination under water and the beautiful landscape of the islands you will see the impressive variety at sea lives such as gorgonia fields, octopus, crayfish, and much more. You can find diving clubs at Dugi Otok, or Zadar, or Murter (~40km from Zadar). Murter is overcrowded, Dugi otok isn't. If you are looking for cultural attractions and nightlife stay at Zadar.
