Is this a cone snail? If so, any particular variety?

Beautiful...
From the sticky list, #2 might help. Somehow I don't think it's Ontario :)

When posting a "Name that Critter" query, if you will include the following information (or as much of it as you can) it'll help a great deal in figuring out what we have...
(1) How big is the critter?
(2) Where in the world is the critter?
(3) What sort of habitat (reef, wreck, sand, rubble etc) is the critter in?
(4) How deep is the critter?
(5) What time of day (or night) did you see the critter?
(6) Any observed behavior of the critter...
(7) If the locals have a common name for the critter, what is it?
Thanks,
Rick

Oops, my bad.

(1) How big is the critter?
About 4 cm in length

(2) Where in the world is the critter?
This was taken off a shallow reef on a night dive in the Maldives a couple of weeks ago.

(3) What sort of habitat (reef, wreck, sand, rubble etc) is the critter in?
Shallow reef, near a small coral head with a bit of a sandy bottom.

(4) How deep is the critter?
Depth was approximately 10 metres

(5) What time of day (or night) did you see the critter?
Early night, around 7 pm

(6) Any observed behavior of the critter...
Just crawling along really slow.

(7) If the locals have a common name for the critter, what is it?
None that I know of.
