I have to admit that I've heard a bunch of pretty weak arguments and "facts" that were supposed to "substantiate" the Biblical worldview over the years. I've heard some good ones, too.

As a religious person, I basically take on faith what the Bible tells us about where we came from. If facts don't seem to fit my faith, I try not to sweat it... better quality "facts" will show up eventually. This is my spiritual life.

As an analytical person, I continually read articles and journals about current science, and am glad when I encounter new facts that seem consistent with my religious faith. If the facts seem in contradiction, I keep researching and waiting for new scientific discoveries which are consistent. I also try to critically analyze my beliefs... the 7 days of creation, were they actually 7 24-hour days, or were they ages? A day is defined by the earth's rotation in relation to our sun, so before those things were created, perhaps the days mentioned in Genesis were longer periods of time, or "ages"

I can understand the frustration of someone who excludes "faith" as a reasonable pursuit, but one can possess faith, and still be analytical and strive for rationality.

(I can't understand those who would force-fit or stretch facts to fit their faith, and then posit those facts as being on the same level as more disciplined science. It shouldn't be necessary to force-fit facts to substantiate one's religious beliefs.)

there's been two posts on this thread calling people stupid, which is name calling and against TOS

i reported it, and nothing has been done

is there a Mod around?

This post edited by Doc. Astonishingly enough, Mods do not sit around waiting for emails from posters so that they can instantly leap into action, particularly at 5:00 quitting time on a Friday afternoon. Deplorable, perhaps, but true. Perhaps in the thread itself is not the most prudent place to express one's frustration with Mod inattention. Doc has decided that H2Andy should quit hyperventilating.

You think that if you wait long enough someone will give you an explanation that will fit with your spiritual beliefs?

Your view is to just wait it out.

No force fit, no stretch, just have enough patience to wait long enough for your religious views to be accommodated.

I didn't see any posts where a member of this board call another member stupid. Are you refering to the statement; "People who believe things that are clearly not true are stupid"? I didn't see that statement as directed against any member and, therefor, not a TOS violation.

This post edited by Doc. A statement need not identify a specific user in a sentence for that sentence to be perjorative and inflammatory. Statements exist in a context which, removed from, may reduce their impact. A statement that says "People who believe X are morons" when several previous posters have indeed stated they believe X is against TOS, regardless of the fact that no SB members have specifically been named in that sentence.

well, that's not up to me to decide (whether it's a TOS violation or not)

i'm just reporting it, and want to make sure the Mods are aware

i do think it's a personal attack against many of the posters on this thread.
also, it is mean spirited language, and that's against TOS too. also, it is calling people names, and that's against TOS too

but again, that's not my call to make

Pretty much. :)

This post edited by Doc. Elimination of previous petulance.

I was just going to let it go and let the comment speak for itself and the author. Maybe we should all pitch in a buy some copies of "How to win Friends and Influence People" and send them out as Christmas gifts. LOL
