I just saw where my wifes Scubapro S600 has cracks in the plastic housing!
This reg has about eight dives on it and hasn't been used in 3 years. It breathes fine and no leaks. Is it safe?

You should take your regulator to your local Scubapro Technician and have it overhauled since its been 3 years. The s600 case should be replaced, also the inlet housing should be inspected for cracks.

Scubapro does have a lifetime warranty if you are the original owner, and the regulator was serviced annualy. I hope this helps.

Safe Diving

Does it pass a vacuum test? If not, you can expect it to breath wet; perhaps very wet. I would not let my wife dive her S600 with a cracked case.

...agreed, do you want to spend your next vacation worrying about this ? The cracks might be due to improper assembly/servicing (over torquing a fitting) or perhaps it was damaged by an impact.....the 2nd stage swung into/smacked into something...or maybe a tank or other heavy object was placed on it at some point ?

I had my one and only near death experience (while diving - we won't review my aviation past) due to a cracked regulator case. My buddy, a PSD, was at 130' when his small cracked decided to become a big crack. He inhaled a bunch of water, got into an interesting cough/gag/inlae more wate cycle and panicked. He proceeded to slam me into the silty bottom several times to get my attention and the low viz went to no viz. I managed to get behind him, drag him out of the silt cloud by the manifold assess the situation and get him to the surface with some additional assistance. He would not swap regs due to his panicked state.

It could have gone much worse for both of us. I no longer dive with large weightlifting PSD's with cracked regs.

The dealer cost for a new S600 case is in the $10.00 range, so even with a 100% markup for those dealers who mark up parts, it is not an expensive fix even if it is not covered under warranty.

I really appreciate the responses. I just had the reg overhauled at the LDS (authorized Scubapro). I'm going to take it there tomorrow. The tough thing is we are heading for Islamorada next Saturday (August 16th).
Might have to try and borrow a loaner unless they can replace the housing quick.
Kind of dissapointing. I'm still diving a Scubapro Mark 7/ Air 1 setup. No problems in 25 years. My wife's reg has 8 easy dives in the Keys max.

I just got back from my LDS. They called Scubapro and they are going to cover the cracked housing under warranty and will overnight the part to the shop.
Now let's just hope the tropical disturbances in the Atlantic stay away from Islamorada.

I somehow accidentally cracked one of my S600 housings and had it replaced. If it is a registered 2nd stage make sure the new serial number gets transferred for your parts warranty for life.
