gypsyjim said it like it is, I forgot you are a new diver. The sharks I saw were in water that was around 60 to 80 feet deep. The Blue Hole is a deep dive and I had a max depth of 155. The other 2 dives after that were in the 60 to 80 foot range with alot of wildlife.

Both places offer some great diving.

Cozumel has great wall and drift diving. It is fabulous to just sit back and let the current carry you along as you take in the sights. The dives as a whole can be a little deeper 65-85 feet on the first dive of the day but we did all of our certification and first open water dives in Coz. The wildlife we have seen in Coz has been impressive including turtles, rays and a lot of fish, and more.

Belize is different diving. We dove Ambergris Caye over Christmas and really enjoyed it as well. The coral formations are spur and groove dives (like fingers) and typically runs shallower than in Coz 45-65ft - though you can certainly go deeper. Again the diving had a lot of life on them including sharks, rays, turtles, and more. Our preferred diving in Belize was off of the atolls - Lighthouse Reef, Half Moon Caye. The Blue Hole in Belize is definitely an advanced, deep dive requiring experience.

Peter - No need to be cranky, it wasn't a dig on Belize diving. I was off, where we stayed it was offered for $250.00 per person to do a 3 tank trip to the blue hole. Hard for me to pay $500.00 for one day of diving. When I referred to "most other dive sites" I was referring to dive trips from Belize City which were listed $300 or more from the Radisson. For around $450 per person you can stay in Cozumel for 4 nights with 9 dives (hotel and dives). On our last trip there we only had to pay $15 for a 3rd dive.
