We went to Coz for the second time of hopefully many to come, had a fantastic time. We were worried about conditions there, but found out we had absolutely nothing to worry about. Construction is going full speed, and most shops are open for business. Food was great, discovered Sonora Grill this trip, the Sonora shrimp were incredible. We visited most of the restaurants on Christi's list, and found them all to be very good.
We dove with Deep Blue, (which is conveniently directly accross the street from La Choza....another good place to eat!), and they did a fantastic job. We were informed of the dive site options and allowed to vote, and were put in fast boats with divers of our level. The DM's, Sandro and Hector, allowed us to dive our dives at our own pace, while the cattle boat divers went blazing by us in the current. Deep Blue also hooked us up with Lorena from Deep Vision, who dove with us 2 dives and did a videography for us. The videography turned out wonderful, kinda like watching National Geographic with us in it, set to great music!! The deep dives are great, with new swim thrus having been uncovered by Wilma, while the shallower dives show damage. Most of the shallow sites have alot of sand, and even Santa Rosa wall looked alot different with the sand on the coral. Our night dive at Paradise was very different due to the sand deposited there, and the coral damage from Wilma. However, it seemed like we saw many more critters this time than last. We saw Eagle rays on 3 different dives, all at the shallower sites, like Punta Tunich. Also saw several Nurse sharks, and several Octopus. We even managed to find a Seahorse on Punta Tunich. Got to see the anchor that Wilma uncovered also.
We stayed at Hotel Cozumel, nice place, although the food was not really that great. However, it is close to town, and the pier was one of the few that was up and operational, allowing Deep Blue to pick us up right there. The second pier was being poured when we left to come back to the states.
Overall, a fantastic trip, fabulous diving, Deep Blue was great, and the Island, well, such a wonderful place with such friendly people. Cannot wait to return as soon as we can!

Was the beach bar / restaraunt through the tunnel open at the Hotel Cozumel? I am interested in the video cost as well?

the tunnel was open, the beach club was open, and the pier area was busy with workers repairing the second pier.
The Videographer was Deep Vision, Lorena Lazcano, at deepvisioncozumel@yahoo.com
It was $150 US, plus $10 for a second copy, so for us it was $80 a couple. She also threw in a 30 minute compilation of highlites of diving that she has taken for free. Make sure you tell her that George and Arlene Duncan recommended her!! She was very very sweet, pleasant, and one hell of a diver. Deep Blue can also hook you up with her. Another couple we dove with also hired her, and said they have used her for the last 5 years, and spend the dreary days at home watching the DVDs....makes them even more ready for the next Coz trip!!

I just got back a couple days ago and would agree with your assessment. We dived with Scuba Gamma but since their boat is still out of commission, they hooked us up with Eco-Divers and Deep Blue. They were both good ops but I definitely liked Hector and Deep Blue. The shallower dives were ok, but as previously reported, there is a lot of sand and signifigant reef damage. Definitely dive the southern reefs though. We wanted to do Punta Sur, but the seas were too rough for our small boat so we made it to Palancar Caves. Very cool and in great shape. I saw the biggest snapper I've ever seen (over a meter long and fat) and even Hector was impressed.

While the beaches suffered on the leeward side of the island, the eastern beaches are beautiful. The roads are all rebuilt and open and most of the restaurants and bars are up and running. We had great ceviche at Playa Bonita but if you want good seafood at a reasonable price, go to La Conchita del Caribe on 65th in San Miguel... rockin'!

Can't wait, I'll be there saturday! Sounds so awsome....

Glad to hear that it recovered so quickly. We were schedule to go in October when Rita hit. I hope we get to make it this year.
