Hi All,

Planning our next trip to Cozumel. We went 3 times in 2004 and stayed at Fiesta Americana each time (all inclusive). I love all inclusive (we still visit a few local eateries every time we go) and I won't be changing that. We have been thinking about trying the Cozumel Palace. We've been quoted a price of 272.00 a night through padi travel for April 23rd - 30th. We've got free flights with miles so it would be worth it! Does anyone know FOR SURE when the palace will open? I know it was originally in December and then it got moved to March but it looked like things were moving slowly. I don't want to book for the end of April if they won't really be open. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks!

I have it from reliable sources that the end of March will be the opening date. It does look like things are speeding up a bit over there. I'll see if I can get any info on whether they are still on target and let you know :)

If 'twere me, I wouldn't book (read: pay for) accomodations for future dates at any facility that is not up and running now. There are plenty of really nice places to stay on Cozumel.

Thanks!!! Looking forward to hearing from you!

I agree, if you book in advance and it is not finished, then what? If you enjoyed Fiesta Americana so much, why not go there? Then, when you are in Coz, you can go over and check out the Palace and plan your NEXT trip using your reward! Then you get to go twice!! ;)

The Palace still looked like demolition was taking place in December, but looking carefully you could see that actual construction was taking place. Still don't think I'd book a stay there until it has been open for a month or two. Even if they do open in March, the staff will be need time to get up to speed.

Here is my two cents worth:

Round trip airfare from Chicago to Cozumel for two adults traveling Saturday to Saturday on Continental during the middle of April is running about $1,130. So by flying on free miles you are ahead $1,130. Why do you feel the need to blow through a large portion of the $1,130 by upgrading to the Palace when you like Fiesta Americana and are satisfied with staying there?

Why not go back to the Fiesta Americana and put the $1,130 you are saving towards your next vacation? Further, I bet it takes the Palace months to run anywhere near smooth. Don't forget it is opening in Mexico, a place that doesn't run smooth even when it is running smooth!

Well, it looks like fiesta americana will probably be the choice! Thanks to everyone who replied...the suggestions/comments really helped! I'll update everyone on final prices once we get completely booked!

Isn't the Palace the same building as the old Plaza Las Glorias? If so, it sure doesnt' look anywhere near ready. I would pick another place if I were you - because even if they manage to get it done, they won't have worked out all the kinks.

By the way, I notice under your name you mentioned teh Canon powershot & housing. DO you like it? I jsut bought a powershot but need to find a housing - where did you get yours? How much was it?

Since you didn't say which model powershot you have, I can't tell you if a housing is available. You can check to see if your camera does have an available housing at digideep.com .

I'd try www.froogle.com for a search for the housing once you know the exact model number.
