I would say May. North winds are no longer a problem and spring break is over. It is a lull before school lets out and hurricane season begins. Have fun.funkyspelunker:

Why limit yourself? Go both months!
I like it when the weather is warmer/hot so I lean towards Summer months. Some of my dive buddies like the cooler weather so they go Feb. Mar. & Apr. Much as I hate it I go with them but they won't go with me in August?

April is clearly better since *I* will be there in April!

I do the last week of April into the first week of May. High school & college finals are taking place so the area is still quiet, wether is nice and I believe May 4 is the ideal time for whale shark sightings between Yucatan and Belize. Full moon to 3 days afterwards. Anyway, if your looking for two dive buddies from NJ drop us a PM.

OTOH, if deep sea fishing is a consideration (it is to me), May is the top month. The dark of the moon is on the 19th, which is good for fishing as well. I'll be there then, diving and fishing on alternate days..
I didn't know about the whale shark convention on May 4th, though. How do they schedule it? ;^)
