Cozumel - are there similar diving locations ?

Hi, well a year ago my wife and I went to Cozumel and had a blast. Great scuba diving, great city, great time.

We are looking to set up another trip this upcoming January. We are looking for a great place to scuba dive but it also must have a nice beach. We really didn't see any good beaches (granted we didn't look everywhere).

That being said, is we do choose not to go to Coz again... can any of you guys suggest a city with a similar diving experience? That is not super $$$$?

Cozumel is very unique for the diving experience. Its relatively inexpensive, easy to get to, great diving, decent shopping and some other touristy activities due to the cruise ships docking there. I've been all over the Caribbean and never really found this unique combination. Its one of the reasons so many divers come back again and again. That being said, the Bahamas are a great place to check out if your into a pelagic encounter. Good beaches, relatively cheap, easy to get to. I would highly recommend Grand Cayman or Providenciales in the Turks & Caicos for the best beaches combined with great diving but the trade off is youre gonna pay more.

West Bay in Roatan has a truly beautiful beach; flight is a piece-a-cake. Ambergris Caye in Belize is another great place. Both are different than Cozumel, but equally awesome destinations.

For me, the whole point of going someplace new is the enjoyment of experiencing the things that make it unique. Cozumel is one of those dive spots that holds a special appeal, but there are plenty of others out there that are just as good; maybe even better.
