For those of you who have traveled to Coz on several occasions....

Is there a certain time of year when the airfare rates drop? Right now it's running close to $500 for a R/T ticket from San Antonio, Texas and I was wondering if rates might drop after Spring Break (around the first of April) ?????

Yes I have seen them drop after spring break, but I am wondering if that will happen this year with 4 hurricanes last year the Caribbean dive destinations may be limited. and Coz would be a great alternative. I don't think you will see a drop until around May or June that is the beginning of slow season in the Caribbean. I am watching them closely for the month of June or July myself.

It's hard to beat the FunJet specials which usually start popping up by June. Most are out of DFW but some out of Austin. I've seen Cozumel air only for about $200. And I've grabbed a few 7 day packages including air and AI resort that ran about $600.

I go to Cozumel every May (8-22 this year), and historically anything less than $500 on Continental is pretty good. Due to their weird pricing structure, it is quite often cheaper to fly to Coz from Canada than from Texas. I wouldn't hold out until April waiting for pricing to go down; all the cheap(er) seats are already gone on some flights in May.

Have you checked Mexicana? I believe that they fly to Coz from SA.

If you can fit Funjet's profile (3, 4, or 7 day stay only on certain days of the week), they usually have some excellent deals.

I have to second the Funjet suggestion. I just booked 5 seats out of Michigan for about $199 ea RT, or $320, all taxes and fees included. One week ago, the rate was $469 a seat. Next week, they will probably drop to $149, but due to inflexibility in our schedule - I locked in when I could.

The really good deals are on their "last minute specials" where they sell whatever seats remain for what they can get in the last few days before the flight. If you are flexible enough that you can go on the spur of the moment, then you can save big bux.

Don't be stuck just looking for Coz flights!!! Try the fares to Cancun on reg. airlines and the charters like funjet. There is more compitition to Cancun so prices can be as much as 300 less!!!! The Riviera bus leaves the Cancun airport for Playa Del Carmen every hour at 45 min past. It is only $7 takes 1 hour. Bus station in Playa is 2 blocks from the ferry boat to Coz. $9 each way and 40 min. they also go every hour. Sometimes 2-3 hours more of travel time can save enough to pay for diving. I've done it several times out of Chicago and its not that bad. If you have many bags a couple of bucks gets them carried for you to the bus or ferry.

I wonder if there will be much of a drop in fares at all.

Fuel prices have been skyrocketing lately. As much as I hate it when airlines raise fares, I surely can't blame them in this case.

your best bet for good prices are the charters like FunJet or MLT Vacations.

We start watchig air fare for our next Coz trip the week we get back :)
I think the airlines have a witch doctor roll bones each day to see how much to charge :)
I agree with the last minute deals from funjet or apple being your best bet if you can be flexible with your dates.Unfortunetly for me I have to put in for my 4 weeks of vacation at the end of December each year,so I send lot's of pesos to Continental each year.:(
