My hubby and I will be staying at Blue Angel resort and have 5 days of diving planned (as of now) but are interested in potentially doing a whale shark tour, is this possible from Cozumel directly? Also heard about a snorkel trip to (what seems like) a sand bar? It sounds like a fun party type excursion- any info on that? And lastly, can we take a taxi from the airport vs. doing a cattle type shuttle? Is this something we can arrange through BA? First time to Cozumel diving- not staying at a large resort. TIA for any info! Also- will anyone be there at this time?

Whale shark snorkel is possible from Coz, but it is a looooooooong day (12-14+ hours). I will let someone who has done fill in details.

Snorkel trip is to El Cielo. Lots of places are doing it now. Its nice/pretty/fun. Several Dive ops are doing it now as an afternoon trip if you can get a boat full of ppl.

No taxi from airport unless you want to drag all your stuff waaaay out to the road. Van mafia tickets can be bought at airport. I just get them tossed into my trip via funjet for no hassle etc.

For fellow June trippers - see the June Trip thread below this one.

Have fun!

Just FYI........Blue Angel runs a trip to El Cielo and it is quite popular with great reviews, so no need to look further if you are going to be staying there.

The airport shuttle to BA is 96 pesos per person which is less than $6 usd these days.......if you "set up" your shuttle trip thru your airline, you actually pay about three times the rate AND you are on the EXACT same vans as buying a ticket in the airport at the window.........sorry, Brules, just sayin'........hahha.

I walk right out to the vans with $5 in my hand for each member of my party and get on whichever van is the next to leave. Or I rent a car from blueway, across the street, or hertz which is on location if there are four or more of us.

Nice to know on the Van mafia! :)

Looks like the OP is all set to have a great time!

Hi Jamie. We will be diving during those same days. Look on this same discussion forum for the June rollcall. You will see other divers going during that time.

My son and I are doing the whale shark trip that Tuesday. It does make for a long day, especially if you take the 6 o'clock ferry over to the mainland. My son (age 16) and I opted for the small aircraft trip which leaves one hour later, 7 o'clock. It is more expensive than the ferry, but that is a choice we made. One thing the tour operator advised was to schedule the whale shark trip earlier in your stay. That way, if they are not sighted, or if the trip is canceled due to rough waters, you get a free second chance later on during your stay.

Many tour operators will take you to El Cielo. It is often marketed as "southern beaches". Ask them specifically about the trip to El Cielo to be sure.

I hope you have a wonderful time.

As stated the Whale Shark tour is a long day. You have to catch the first ferry and go all the way to Cancun. You then get on small boats and it is a really long ride. It was probably 2 hours or better on my trip. If you get seasick it can be miserable. It was cool seeing the Whale Sharks and Manta Rays but it was a very long day.
