We were there last week. We also stayed at Caribe Blu. The rooms are basic, but clean. By now the pool has been filled with water. Next in line for work should be the boat dock.bnkysgrl:My husband and I will be making our first trip to coz on January 9th and will be staying at Carib Blu. We are diving with Blue Angel, anyone else going to be there?
We don't know much about good restaraunts, and other things to do, anyone want to fill us in??
Here is a list of the Restaurants we ate at:
The first night we decided to try the Sonora Grill. I had the Sonora Shrimp, which is shrimp, rapped in bacon, covered with a white creamy sauce. Mmmm Wife Barbra had a combo plate of typical mexican food. The plate was huge, and it looked good too. Daughter Emily had chicken fajatias which she liked. Choosing food for her in Cozumel is going to be a challenge as she doesn't like spicy foods at all. Son Alec wanted to begin his quest to eat all the conch ceviche in Cozumel, but had to settle for shrimp chevice instead. Sonora Grill, while not cheap, is recommended. Our bill for the 5 of us was $70 which include 1 beer, 1 bottled water, and 2 sodas.
Dinner was at Camilo's I had a Garlic Fish fillet with rice and vegetables which was quite good and only $6. Emily started a breaded fish filet sandwich and Barbra finished it, only $3. Alec had a big conch cocktail. Easy to recommend this place. Good food, inexpensive, and an easy walk from the Plaza.
One day for lunch we tried Loncheria Las Palmas on the corner of Ave 25 & Calle 3 A popular dining place for the locals. Daily specials include soup, entrée, and drink for $4.50 us. It cost us a bit more than $4.50 because we ordered sodas and bottled water, which isn't included with the meal. There are other kinds of drinks that are included with the meal, but lacking the ability to speak spanish made ordering a bit difficult, even though the menu did have some english on it. It was an adventure eating there and the food was pretty good. I'd eat there again, but next time I'd get either fajitas or shrimp brochette.
For dinner we went to La Morena on Ave 10 between Calle 3 & 5. Pretty nice restaurant. I had the fish stuffed with chopped "seafood" which was probably octopus and shrimp, and covered with a brown gravy-like sauce. It was just OK, but Alec's coconut shrimp was really good. I wish I had ordered that. Barbra had chicken enchiladas which she said were very good. Emily had quesadilas, but she thought the cheeze tasted "funny". I thought it tasted fine and along with the guacamole, I finished them. The overall price seemed a little expensive, especially compared to Camilo's.
Another dinner we ate at La Conchita del Caribe on Ave 65 between calle 21 and 23. The have the menu in both english and spanish and the waiter spoke english pretty well. This is a great place for seafood. I had shrimp brochetta (130p), Barbra and Emily shared an order of grilled shrimp (130p), and Alec had shrimp and conch ceviche (90p), of which he could only eat half. He brought the rest back to the hotel for later. The prices weren't as cheap as I recall from last year, but even with drinks and tip, we were out of there for under $60. The place is bright and clean, has a full bar, and is highly recommended by me.
I took the kids over to the east side to eat at Coconuts beef tacos, 70p, fish tacos 80p and shrimp tacos 90p, plus drinks and an order of guacamole ended up about 360p. The tacos were all really good, and the view from Coconuts, the highest point of land on the island, is great. It killed me that I forgot and left the t-shirt I brought to put on their palapa back at the hotel. Now I have excuse to go back. After eating, we walked on the soft sand beach and collected shells.
The last dinner was at La Choza, on Ave 10 & Salas. It was good too. I had shrimp brochette, which was excellent. Alec had the shrimp in mustard sauce. He thought it was just OK, but I liked it. Barbra had the shrimp soup that had lots of shrimp, and a salad. The restaurant was nice and clean. The service was prompt and polite. I'd eat there again too.
You'll need to either rent a car or take a taxi to get to just about anywhere from the hotel.
here is a link to Christi's restaurant list. Especia's isn't open yet as they are moving to a new location. Mesa 17's owners decided not to reopen.
Hope this helps,
