Shhhhh! I'm pretty sure that he is referring to the hotels offered on a charter (I.e., Funjet) package plan, and we really don't want that kind of thing coming to CB, do we? ;^)

Cheers,

Cheers,

Gordon, I kinda wish they were offered on the Funjet pkg. we would like to stay there but the charter pkgs are cheaper or they were when I was pricing both. Caribe Blu was less expensive but the airfare is what put the pricing over.

I agree with you on the charter thing, when we went a few weeks ago the hotel we usually stay had a lot of funjet people who were just there to drink and party a different type of people (non divers), than when we had stayed there in Dec. At least we were there, and didn't spend that much time at the hotel, we were diving most of the day.

You can always book air-only on Funjet, though the savings may not be as much. They won't book you for more than a week, however, which is what takes them off the board for me. Some things you just gotta pay for; if you REALLY want to save some bucks, you can always stay home. ;^)

This is the way I did the last trip. $200 R/T air through Apple. Booked the CB myself. I don't think you really have to worry about FJ using CB. They generally want to book a block of rooms and with only 24? rooms CB it probably not on their radar...

would be the Hotel Flamingo.

It is a small place, just a few blocks North of the Town Square. It is only a 2 or 3 star hotel (I forget which). It has few amenities, no pool, but it is inexpensive. We stayed there last June, and we will be staying there later this July.

If you book it right, it is only $39 a night, single or double. Julian makes great waffles and some other simple options for breakfast or lunch at the "bar". There is a tiny restaurant directly across the street, and it is within walking distance of everything in town.

We ate at restaurants every night except one when we BBQ'd right in the courtyard of the hotel. Lunches were at places frequented by locals (= inexpensive and good!)

Since we were there to dive dive dive, it was perfect for us.

Just a thought,

Wristshot

Thanks for the input. Glad I found this board.

Don't stay in Villablanca Garden Beach Hotel, which is a dump. No hot water, dirty.

All of the following hotels are better than VB.

Suites Colonial
Suites Bahia
Vista Del Mar Boutique Hotel
Hacienda San Miguel +$100
Coral Princess Hotel and Resort +$150
Casa Mexicana Cozumel +$210

Where did you get these rates? The rates are actually much lower than you stated above. You are/were ripped off if you have paid the rates above.

Casa Mexicana is $90 - $120 depending on room and season
Hacienda San Miguel is $60 - $110 depending on what size suite you get
Coral Princess is $128 for a standard room and $179 for a one bedroom suite

I don't consider any of those three "budget" hotels, but the rates are very reasonable.

Chriti, I think he's booking a package vacation and the +100 etc is an upcharge for the week for booking these hotels.

Shows you what I know about booking through travel agents! When I was a tourist, I always booked everything on my own and usually came out better, but things have changed :) Those upcharges still sound high to me.
