Yes GA686 I flew it in recently end of march, not departing everyday though.

Yeah I looked briefly at going via Bali on that flight, but decided on Jakarta because there were just more backup flight options from there to Sorong on the off chance that something crazy happened and I needed to rebook.
The only problem with the Garuda Bali - Sorong route is it leaves around 2 am (vs 00:10)and is more than one hour shorter than the Jakarta flight so you get even less of the already minimal sleep that you get on that miserable redeye! Other than that the Bali transit is great.

For me who can't sleep on flights shorter than 5-6 hours, it's all benefits.
We usually purchase an additional night at Novotel Ngurah Rai which is quite cheap and far more pleasant than Jakarta hotels (esp.for the breakfast and the pool) and siesta/rest until 11:30PM, so I get more time resting before the flight.
(Btw don't forget when it's 00:10AM in Jakarta, it's 1:10 AM in Bali, in this respect the departure time is only 30 minutes difference)
The main issue is the schedule ie. daily vs non daily.
I preferred daily because it makes arrangement easier instead of wasting time on transit.
Yes the schedule is definitely something to worry about if things go wrong. Either way having done both routes a few times in the last couple years I personally prefer the Jakarta route for many reasons.
