Who belives that couples should have a different dive partner during the class.
And not be buddy with there spouse in the OWC
:argue:

My wife is my dive buddy. We have far better non-verbal communication than anyone else we dive with. I think it is a real advantage for us to dive together and since we have taken all of our courses together, our dive planning and team approach are really high. If you have constant arguments etc. with your spouse, perhaps diving together isn't the best bet but if you get along really well, then I think the advantages are huge.

I also know that if a problem should occur, my buddy is going to do absolutely everything in her power to ensure we are both safe. It works for me.

I have no problem Diving with my Spouse.
What i am talking about are the couples where he or she wants to do everything for one another.
That is not a good way to learn to dive you can't help your buddy if you can't help yourself.:)

So, if you believe that you will probably do most of your diving with your spouse, then it makes sence to learn together. You will become comfortable with her as a buddy much more quickly. I think it's all good!

It does but like i said i think at least the first day in the open water you should be partners with someone else.

Bad move...take it back to the team approach to diving, each member of the team must be fully able to perform all tasks. The only exception I have to this is lugging gear long distances up and down hills. My wife had a health issue at the time which made it very difficult for her to walk up and down the stairs to some of our dives loaded with all her gear...I carried her weights for her...no big deal.:D

That sounds reasonable. If you think that you will get more out of the experience with a different buddy, then go for it. You would know what's best for you. The whole thing is a blast anyway, you guys will have fun and lots to talk about no matter who your buddy is.

Enjoy!!!

Why? If you eliminate the whole thing of one person doing everything for the other, which is a moot point in an OW class, then what is your reasoning for not doing your training with the person you will be doing all your diving with from the start? The more comfortable you are in a new situation, the better off you will be as at least you "know" who you're now trusting your life to.

I have to agree with Roxy.
There was a couple in a class recently.
He did every thing for her. She never got comfortable with the equipment, the skills or the experiance of diving with another person.
Now she does not dive anymore...
Could have been partly the instructors fault.
But I feel a couple should be broken up during the open water dives, and pool time.
That will make them both stronger divers.
