My photo counter on my MXIIEX is stuck at "1".

I used 24 exposure film while in Bonaire last year when it occured.

The camera advances film without problem. But when I rewind the film is not totally rewound-a little half inch section hangs out of the roll. The hanging part does not have film on it but it is a little disconcerting.

I can send it in as it is still under warranty but from what I experienced with warranty work is that it takes FOREVER to get it done and returned. I want to shoot photos this weekend.

Is there anything simple that I can do to solve the problem?

I don't think it effects the film just the photographers nerves-but I will see when my film is developed tommorow.

Thanks

Buff, if it is under warranty, I really don't see why you wouldn't want to take it in & have them address this problem. You don't have to send it all the way back to Sea & Sea. Since they have a network of authorized repair facilities across the country you can probably find one near you.

Frankly, I wouldn't want to mess about with MY camera, especially since sometimes it leads to worse problems. And if they find evidence of some "self-repair" efforts, it may void the warranty.

I know how you feel, not wanting to wait any longer. And it may not hurt anything to use it a time or two. But I still think you should get it to a repair shop soon. There are several S&S authorized places around. The last time I sent my camera in I had it back in 10 days.

For what it's worth, my MMII also leaves an inch or so of film after rewinding. But I just got the camera used and have no idea of its true condition. I just put in a new roll of a different brand of film to see if the same thing happens again. Thought it might have to do with the canister, but should know if a few days...

My camera was new when i bought it and the counter works, but it does leave a little bit of film out when it rewinds it. I assumed that was the feature - i actually really like it, because it lets me change the film before dive (i.e. from 50 asa to 400asa) if the condition had changed or change that film that i half shot and put it back later

one danger with this thing is that you can mix up the exposed and the new rolls

It's normal for there to be a 1/2" or so of film 'tail' left outside the canister of an exposed roll of film. To help tell new and exposed rolls apart, you can wind that short tail back into the canster on the exposed rolls. That way when you get home, it it has a tail it's new. Take the tail-less ones to be developed.

The film advancing "drive" mechanism is working well. I haven't had a problem advancing film or rewinding film.

I guess that the mechanism that normally turns the counter as the film advances is not engaged. Doesn't effect film just me keeping track of the number of exposures left.

Now my problem becomes: My warranty expires in June. If I send the camera in it will take all summer to get it fixed and back to me. If I don't send the camera in I can take photos but I'll end up paying for the repair myself. If the repair costs 200 or less then I will wait-CAUSE I'VE ALREADY WAITED MY WHOLE LIFE TO SCUBA DIVE!!!!!!!! AND I AIN'T GOING TO WAIT ANY MORE TO DO U/W PHOTOGRAPHY.

I just called my "buddies"at Leisure Pro and they said it's about a month to get it fixed-uggghhhh.....

I have until June 27th(warranty expires then) and if the camera works correctly(I'm getting my photos back at 3:00pm and that should be the proof) then I'm going to wait until June.

The vis starts getting crappy here in MN in June so I won't crave my camera so much then.

Thank for the answers.

Mike
