Join some clubs, frequent some shops, and I bet you will find some more economical ways to dive.

Exactly! You said you used to ski: local diving & diving with friends is how to dive at the cost of XC skiing, not downhill.

I also like nice liveaboards and IMO they aren't actually expensive at all - for the cost of staying and eating at a nearby spa hotel 7 days, you can have your lodgings and excellent food plus for the same money also fly somewhere have 20+ dives and meet new people guaranteed to share at least 1 of your interests. Liveaboards are also so much easier travel because you only need to pack for 1 activity, no better clothes for nightclubs, good shoes and tropical clothing for days under the sun sightseeing, etc.

Move to Ohio and start quarry diving. Cheap AND phenomenal! (Sarcasm)
