I will be staying near Quepos for a couple of days in late August and was thinking about taking one day to do a two-tank dive. How are the conditions, particularly visibility, in this area at this time of year? Also, any recommendations on good dive sites in the area?

Hola! The conditions can be variable and to be honest we won't know until about 48hours before. It can be anything from 10ft up to 50ft depending on rains. If you have just one day of diving then I would suggest maybe seeing if you can get to Cano island. The boats leave from Dominical area and you will be guaranteed (honest!) sharks. We took a staff trip there last august and say sharks, mantas, jacks etc, etc with visibility at 50ft. In Quepos at the time we were diving with about 30ft viz. Still plenty to see in both places but if you want more of a guarantee on bigger life then look at Cano.
