I was dicking around on the Internet yesterday and I came across this site, which seemed to imply to me that the cost of filling a pair of doubles with trimix (in Australia at least) would run you the equivalent of about US$300. Is that right? As a non-tec diver, I had no idea trimix was so expensive.

My normal philosophy is that if I am going to spend US$300 on an hour's entertainment, somebody had better be taking their clothes off.

Notice the HE says 2332 liters. I only speak American, but I still think that's a bit of a cave fill.

Well with trimix at least you will remember the experience.

It depends on where you are at. Here in the US,the cost of He and O2 will vary from state to state, and supplier to supplier, and dive shop to dive shop. Many tech divers do their own mixing, as I do. I buy a T of He for US$135 and a T of 02 for US$38. I'm not familiar with the going rate from a dive shop since I do my own mixing, but I believe it is more in the US$100 range for a standard mix like 18/45.

I think He is a little more expensive there. It depends on where you are, what mix you are filling, etc., etc., etc. Lots of variables. But it would not be out of line to blow $200 on a stiff mix in an area where He is not readily available. And then you have your deco gases. It's not a cheap sport :)

What grade are you getting for $135? You are gettting some pretty cheap gas. I have been hounding the local gas suppliers and they haven't budged on their prices (approx $200/T He, $75 O2)

My supplier is Purity Cylinder Gases and they have thier He graded high purity(HP) or ultra high purity (UHP). I purchase HP. The 02 I purchase is aviator grade. I have a contract price with them and they have held it flat for two years now. A friend over in Wisconsin has been getting it cheaper than I have, but I don't recall who his supplier is.

Expect high prices anywhere that helium must be shipped to.

I pay about $80USD to fill 200CF of trimix.

Truk Lagoon: He $4.50 a cu ft............
Vancouver BC and Victoria BC, about $1.00 to $1.00 a cu ft. About $.75 cu ft if you buy it and fill yourself.
