Hi,

What is the basic cost for a dive?

I mean the cost of air, nitrox, trimix, scrubber.

I know there are many additionnal costs, such as equipement rental and buying, car use, hotels, but let's forget about them for the moment.

So, what about for the fill of a 104 cf bottle:

Air - 6-8 $ in Eastern Canada

Nitrox

Trimix

Rebreather costs ( I dont know much about those, but I'd like to know).

Phil

Local air is $8, Nitrox is $13
Travel varies, but I figure on $160 for a 3 tank boat (including tank rental+tip).

The real cost will only be known if my wife finds out how much I have spent on gear - probably about 1/2 my net worth + Alimony / Child Supprt.

Boat fee- $60
Tank Rental- $20
BCD & Reg rental- $30
Tip for DM- $10

If I was diving Nitrox it would be $15 a tank.
This is all before paying for parking too:depressed: that could be another five bucks or so.

Local shore dive:

Drive 20 miles: 2.40
Nitrox fill: 0.65 (I buy a yearly membership for $650, and use at least 100 Nitrox fills)
Parking: 0 to $5

Dive off my boat:

Drive truck 20 miles: $7
Boat launch fee: $7
2 hours engine time: $42 (This is usually split with at least 2 other divers)
2 Nitrox fills: $1.30

Local charter:

Boat fee: $85
2 Nitrox fills: $1.30
Drive 100 miles round trip $12

Mexican cave dive:

Airfare: $500
Condo: $300 (per person x 4)
Car rental: $200
Tank rental: $30
Site fee: $10
An hour among the stalactites: PRICELESS!

Not to nitpick but since it's the topic of the thread I would respectfully point out that your Nitrox fills are $6.50 a piece - not $ 0.65:)

Local dives (desert mud hole) $50.00 gasoline
Motel $75
Air $7 per tank
Nitrox $10 per tank

Diving in the other local site is an additional $30 bucks to get in and you get two hours.

Local shore dive:
Gas = $10 to $35 depending on how far I go.
Air $5 per fill
Parking fees = $0 to $8

Local dive off my boat:
Fuel for truck and boat $25 to $60 depending on what county I go to.
Boat launch fee $5 to $20 depending where I go
Wear and tear on boat = a few bucks to possibly more depending if I lose or break anything.

Trips to Socal for boat diving:
$140 to $350 for Charter boat
$25 to $50 for nitrox (additional)
$20 to $40 for tips
$100 to $150 for gas for the pickup
No motel fees since I sleep on the boat then drive back as soon as I get off the boat.
I also have a friend to stay with if I need but I always bring food and beer

Monterey with my boat:
Two tanks of gas in the truck = $75
Boat fuel $10 to $20
Air fills @ $5 average ea.
Nitrox $10 ea.
Parking fee at breakwater $12
Never a motel fee in Monterey because I know where to stay for free (can't let out the secret)

A few dollars could be added in for hidden costs like equipment maintenace, annual rebuilds, wetsuit/drysuit wear and tear, etc.

To be honest the total cost of a dive is fairly high when you include the equipment, the boat, the airfare, or the gas to drive,

HOWEVER:

The cost of not diving.

Take kids to movies $150
dinner out $125
Wifes new shoes, maybe $65 she will not say.
new video game for kids $60
home repairs $200
medical care from home repairs, up to $500 deductible.
failure to soak body in salt water and resultant mental abuse, priceless. :lotsalove:
