I am new to Scuba Diving and need some means to improve my vision. At this time I am confused as to the best way to achieve the needed correction.

My prescription for corrective lenses are:

Right: Sphere + 75 Add 2.25
Left: Sphere: plant Cylinder +50 Axis 18 Add 2.25

I am hoping someone here would know what options I have? Most of my problems seem to be reading my gauges and compass.

Thanks, Ronnie

I have the SeaVision mask with prescription lens', love it. Got bi-focals.

Alot of the Cressi Sub masks have customizable lense options. The hydrooptix masks may also be something you might want to look into. Whatever mask you choose, make sure that the lenses are changed by a professional and that you have no leaks before diving.

I second seavision...order on line, type in 'script...volia! My masks are perfect. DO NOT go for LDS diopter inserts, either use contacts or shell out 200 bucks for a custom mask. You won't regret it. :14:

If you need bifocals UW other than getting a prescription mask you can add a diopter to the lens at the bottom of the mask.

I wear contacts, and generally have no issue reading the gauges. However as I get older and fall apart, I find that in low vis a diopter helps.

Check it out. There are less expensive solutions out there as well. I use a company that makes these to go into sunglasses, and they run $10 a pair. Unfortunately I don't have that link at work, and can not remember the name of the company.

I put a set of these in one of my masks. http://www.scuba.com/shop/diving.asp_cat_54_scuba_1_gear_028500_pn_TRIDENT-DIVE-OPTX

They work good for reading gauges. I needed the +2.5. I went down to my local drug store that had a display with reading glasses on them. I picked up a book and read it while trying on different diopter glasses. The +2.5 worked best for my arm length so then I ordered the ones from scuba.com as they had the most ranges listed. The only problem I have had with them in my mask is I made the mistake of deciding to wash out my mask with the garden hose, opps, I did find the lens in the driveway.

There are a few masks that offer a bifocal lens standard, I believe they call it a gauge reader mask. One has a +1.75 and the other I have seen comes with a +2.0. Then there are some places that can order a replace lens for your mask with prescriptions installed.

The only problem I really had though was my arms were not long enough to be able to read my gauges.. Course one could get a longer hose and a stick for your gauges:rofl3:

Years ago my optometrist suggested I try something called "monovision" with my contact lenses. My right eye has a lense that corrects it for distance viewing... my left eye is corrected for nearsightedness.

I know this might sound a bit wierd... but he said about 80% of people can adapt to it. It has worked well...

Interestingly the brain appears to be able to shift 'dominant eyes' depending on what you're viewing.

I've been doing this for years now... and I dive in them... no problems.

It's another option to explore...

You'll just need to correct your presbyopia(near vision ie bifocal Rx- THE ADD)......Your distant Rx will not have to be corrected for either eye(OD, OS)......I would think a +2.50 add would cover it........OR get you some CTL's..........If you have any other questions, PM me...I'm an eye doctor(practicing for 31 years) that has been diving since '85.....Would be able to answer any questions you have..........Joe......

JR, might have been me, you ever live in Louisiana???...lol..Monovision has been around since the early 60's(LBJ was the 1st prominant person to wear them)......
