Coromandel fatality - North Island, New Zealand

A woman has died following a diving incident in Hahei this afternoon. Waikato police say the woman was reported missing in Feal Bay, on the edge of the Marine Reserve, shortly before 2pm.

A helicopter was dispatched from Auckland to try and find the woman, and was joined by Coastguard and surf life savers.

The woman's body was found when bubbles were seen in a patch of water. Police say despite best efforts, the woman was pronounced dead when she was dragged to shore.

Police say they are in the process of identifying the woman and locating her family.
