Do you guys know any site whcih have these pics?

I think photos posted to our own galleries are, but you have to okay it with the photographer that uploaded them to the board. For instance, I give you permission to use mine. However, there's only 8 marine photos in my gallery and I'm a crappy photographer.

I liked your banded coral shrimp pic.

Thanks. Hopefully you didn't notice that the shrimp was originally oriented upside down. I flipped the image.

When you ask a photographer to use an image, please be sure to tell her/him what you will use it for.

For instance, I do not have any issues with people using my gallery images for their wall paper on their computers - it's nice to be told, but not mandatory :) Several others feel the same way.

I would have a problem with someone using my images in a brochure or other publication in any media without consulting me.

I am sure you will find a lot of photographers that will let you use their pix for your own personal use. If you were going to use them for print you would need higher rez than what is on the gallery. The better the photographer the harder it is to get them to let you use their photos. Alcina has some of the best photos on the board.
Feel free to cut and past any of my photos from http://www.scubaboard.com/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/29553
I would also like to know what you want to use them for.
PM me if you need higher rez. This is a limited offer as I am just a novice. When I get better the price goes way up. It’s a long way from free to any payment. I don’t expect people to be standing in line to get my photos any time soon……perhaps never….probably never….ok I know it will never happen.

Try www.photosearch.com if you are looking to spend some money but my guess is you are not.

I missed this last time. No they aren't copyright free. All photos in the galleries are copyright the photographer and all laws, regulations etc apply. The photographer retains the rights to those images.

Well crud hypermount, I guess you're out of luck. It's particularly difficult finding images online that you can swipe with no strings attached. Makes it a royal pain in the butt for educators, let me tell you. I know lots of teachers that download other peoples' stuff anyway, but I find that... rude.

Whenever I happen across a free site, I download as much as possible, as quick as possible. Very rarely will this luxury last. If you download such photos for commercial purposes, its general courtesy to acknowledge the photographer.

Here's an example of one of these super-rare download sites, promoted for educators. I've been grabbing stuff left and right for my classes... not scuba related however.

Hey, I wonder if we can set up a gallery like this on scubaboard! We can call it the "copyright-free gallery" or something. Dang, what a sweet idea. Maybe I'll post a new thread about it... tempting. :dazzler1:

Why is this under the Asia category? Since I'm heading out to Sipidan in March, I've been looking in at the Asia threads, but this strikes me as a topic that belongs under Underwater Photography. You'd, um, probably get an earfull there.

The way to get copyright free photos is to take them yourself. Otherwise, the fair thing to do is to get permission from the photographer(s). I don't know about others, but it realistically cost me quite a bit of money for my equipment and for the trips - I'd at least like to get some sort of acknowledgement that I was the one that took a photo. Scubaboard is mostly amatuer photographers; I put my photos up so I can share them with friends and relatives, and also so I have a super-emergency backup (albeit not of the originals). Truthfully, I really don't care if anybody is looking or downloading what I've taken. I'd get a kick out of knowing one of my photos was being reused somewhere - the main thing is I'd want to know WHERE its being used and for what purpose. Education? No problemo. A porn site? I'd have to wonder why (fond-o-fish?), and don't know that I'd want to be associated with it.

I post my pics for others to enjoy like I enjoy the other members' galleries. I would like to be asked to use my pics and like TheNitroxinator I would not like my pics being used for things I don't agree with. To ask permission for use from the artist that did the work taking the picture is just the right thing to do. It's an honor when some one likes an image that I was lucky enough to capture. If the pic can be of some good use, even better. I'm a rookie with plain old stuff to take photoghraphs of so I'm pretty easy about sharing my pics. No big lost revenue if I give them away. If I ever get the "money maker" I won't be so eager to share :D.
