HEllO BOARD, SOME FRIENDS AND I ARE CONSIDERING DOING THE COOPER RIVER IN SC AROUND JUNE. CAN ANYONE GIVE SOME RECCOMENDATIONS ON DIVE SHOPS, CHARTERS AND PLACES TO STAY??? :06: AND ALSO ANYTHING ELSE YOU CAN RECCOMEND.

I've dove the Cooper 3 times in the last couple of years with 3 different operators. My favorite was Capt. Tom McMillan's "Day on the Cooper River". Diving is from a large V-bottom aluminum boat so you need to be comfortable with a back roll entry and space is limited to 5-6 divers. I also dove with a shop in North Charleston and a private individual who both had pontoons that had more room. I believe there is a lot of animosity between some of the different operators but I don't know any details. As Andy said, the folks on the Deep Dixie Divers Forum would have a lot more details. As for the diving it is a blast. Put on too much lead, dig something into the bottom, hang on and try to find some teeth in 12" of vis. Take a safety sausage, it won't help with the gators but might keep a bass boat off your head.

Personally, I prefer going out with Phil Meyers. You can contact him through his website, Back Water Diversion . I've also hear some real good things about "Off the Wall charters" out of Jocassee SC. Don't worry about the gators or anything like that. I haven't heard of anyone getting messed with by them.

OzarkJim, you're right, there is some animosity between "some of the operators". From what I've seen and heard, it is mostly one way though. Most won't even talk about it.
