I am presently using a apeks TX-100 DIN 1st stage but most of my diving is in the area that uses the a-clamp. I have previously used a DIN/YOKE adapter for my dives but I'm getting tired of the first stage positioned close to my head that when I look up, the back of my head hits the 1st stage. I tried putting my tank lower but its one of those crafted backplates so its a no go.

So, I'm thinking of converting my DIN to the YOKE, is there a kit that can be used for the conversion? And how much is it, roughly? And it should be able to be converted back to DIN if the bloody region ever got rid of the damned a-clamp right?

Thanks.

I was talking to some folks this weekend about converting regs... in my case yoke to DIN. I was told [not by a shop mind you, but another diver] it'll probably be about $45 for the DIN part, and then went on to explain a little more about how to remove the yoke fitting and put the DIN fitting on. And yes, you can convert it back since you'll have both pieces...

Granted we were talking about the first stage I had [Apeks DST I believe it is] and not the TX-100 first stage, but thats what he had and I'm sure it's the same.

I believe it cost me about $40.00. I can't get to the diveinn.com site now to see if they have it. You might give them a call even if they don't show it. The conversion is not too difficult to do yourself. You may need a vise or something fairly solid to hold the reg as torque is in the neighborhood of 20 ft-lb but may take quite a bit more if there is salt deposit buildup on the connections. While a crescent (adjustable) wrench may work on the yoke nut, a socket is less likely to cause damage & give you better control of torque. You may have to do some customizing of the socket for it to fit the nut inside the yoke.

Thanks for the help.

So i gather that the cost for the parts is about $40, in USD I assume. I've tried looking on Diveinn but I think Aqualung stopped that. I'll email them to find out. But I don't have the right tools to do the job. I've looked at scubatools, but I think cost is just going to skyrocket if I had to order the parts, and the tools. I think I'll check with some LDS too.

Large, go around one side of the yoke adapter. Put the reg (wrapped in a shop towel, with hoses removed) in a vice. You'll need the proper sized allen wrench to remove the din. Just good and snug, 20 ft/lbs on a big a$$ cresent isn't alot.

ps. was like 70 bucks from my LDS

I wasn't at my regular LDS, but I was at a shop near work getting fills and I asked. He had a TX-100 DIN connector right under the counter and checked the price for me... $60. I forgot to ask if that was for the part or installed....

was looking for an A-clamp to replace my DIN set.

who also happens to be one of the registered dealers of Apeks products in Singapore. He quoted me the price of about S$65(US$37), before service tax to change my DIN to YOKE. I think that's a pretty good price to pay, I also asked them if they allowed me to sit in to watch the operation but they haven't gotten back to me on that.

Edge,

I have a TX100 that I bought with a yoke and purchased the part to convert it to DIN. It is not an adaptor but a separate part that requires the Yoke fitting to be removed.

The DIN fitting requires a 6 mm Allen wrench for (de)installation and the Yoke a ¾” box wrench (it needs to be a box wrench as an standard open end wrench will not fit). When I get around to it I am going to cut the open end of my combination wrench to make the wrench which is now 12” long small enough to fit in my save a dive kit.

I use the DIN fitting for my HP 120 tanks and switch out to the Yoke for rental AL 80s. Whichever fitting I’m not using I kit in my save a dive kit.

Hope this helps,
Mike
