About a month ago I was trying to decide on buying DUI Rock boots or a pair of Chuck Taylors (Converse High-tops) I was worried that the Converse eyelets would rust, so I sent Converse an email asking them that question. It took about a month for a reply with the answer below:

Just thought it was kind of funny they don't even know what the shoes are made of. I guess I would have to email the sweatshop where they are made. I ended up buying DUI Rock boots and they have worked out well.

I was seriously considering buying a pair of bright red or yellow converse to use as rockboots, despite the rule #6 violation, but I think the eyelets would rust. Mine look they are made out of some cheap metal, not brass and definitely not SS.

I think they're aluminum. I've had many pairs over the years, which have been subjected to all sorts of wetness -- never saw any rusty eyelets.

Two big considerations: Do you go for the camo, Stars & Stripes, lime green, bright red, or good old black or white?

And what socks?

When my rock boots die, they're being replaced with a pair of Black & White Chucks. Old School - like Hoosiers. No doubt. If the Rock Boots hadn't come with the suit, I'd be in them right now.

Here's a stupid question from someone who still wears neoprene booties:

Do rock boots require a special (wider) fin? I know that a pair of Chucks would be a little wider than my current fins. Just curious.

Depends on your fins to begin with. I am able to fit a size 11 Rock Boot in the same fin I wear a size 11 7mm booty with. It is a little tight, but they do fit.

LOL, i remember when Converse hightops were the shoes to own. And i'm not talking for drysuit boot use either. :)

I also considered a pair and my rockboots are actually relatively close to needing replacement.. I was gonna go with the red ones to match the drysuit, but I suppose black would be a little less flashy. Anybody gone as far as to see how many sizes up you need to go to get them to fit? I'd rather not have them look like Krusty the Clown shoes if I can help it..
