A recent post review some techniques to help with overexposure, such as being aware of the position of the sun and the angle of the shot. Also, I recently had a discussion with a very respected posted here and manual control of 'autogain' as a means of controlling overexposure. I have reviewed the specs of my Sony XR 200, it does not give me the option to manually set the 'gain'.

So the question is, does anyone use 'levels' in the color correction feature of their editing software(I use Imovie and some Final Cut Pro) to control overexposed areas and help the blacks become more rich and less grainy?

Thanks as always for any suggestions.
