OK - I know I need a Red filter to shoot dive videos and pics.
Some sites claim I need different tints at different depths but not sure the headache will be worth it.

Looking at SRP filter because it seems like it produces the best results.
The question is does it do well at all depths?
Snorkelling?

If what I read about tints and depths is true then Backskatter seems like the way to go but looks cumbersome.

Then I wonder if just the simple GoPro Red will do me right.

I'm new to this and I'm headed to Cayman in three weeks and I want to bring back some great pics and vids.

HELP!!

I have taken quit a bit of snorkel and dive video with my GoPro 3+. Originally I had the GoPro red filter and it worked well at diving depths (it's "rated" at 15-70ft) . At snorkel depths, especially in bright sun, the video had a slight red tint. I usually did not bother with the filter while snorkeling. I ended up losing my GoPro red filter and bought a cheap knockoff in Roatan. The knockoff had a much darker tint and produced unusable video (very dark red color) while diving. A quality filter is a must in my opinion. I now have the one filter Backscatter Flip ("rated" at 20-50ft) for my 3+ and am happy with dive videos. I just purchased a GoPro Hero 6 and the Backscatter Flip6 with 3 filters and macro lens. When mounted on a tray, the Flip6 is not to cumbersome. My tray is from Mako Spearguns and two Archon lights. Video with filter on or off with lights is a toss up in my opinion.

I have an ActionON Gold. The GoPro filters don't fit without modification (lens on the housing is rectangular). I got a cheap set and machined them to fit. I've used the red for salt water and magenta for freshwater lakes. Both produce acceptable video.

When processing the video, i use VSDC Free Video Editor if necessary. It has a one click color adjustment If the color is a bit off. It also has many fine tuning color adjustments in case the one click doesn't produce perfect results.

I'm considering getting a good quality single red but the cost makes me a bit leary of machining it. If I buggered up the cheap one - no great loss. Just buy another and start over. The high end filters are $40-$55 each up to hundreds. If I buggered up one of those ...

I just take vids for show and tell so I'm pretty OK with the cheap filters. But I'm going to Beneath the Sea tomorrow so I'm going to keep an eye out.

Very nice video! The colors looked great. I just got my hero5 black and ordered the Archon lights today. Next will be the flip6 with macro lens. I can only hope my footage looks as nice!
