Hi,

I wear distance disposable contact lenses with a bifocal built into the left side of my mask. It works great for me. I have never lost a lens, it lets me see all those creatures in the distance, and a have a great view of my guages. My buddy/hubby is an eye doctor and we just played around with different combinations for my particular vision specs.

Talk to your eyecare professional about your vision needs and if he/she is a good doc I am sure a great solution can be worked out.

When I want to read a book or menu, I just put on my readers.

I feel your pain... I can't even wear contacts.. they just bug me so bad. However.... I had never had the chance to dive with corrective lenses.... tried a "bodyglove" mask, but it made me dizzy as they are general strength.. not perfect.

THE BEST thing going is to have special lenses made for your mask. Prices start at $80 and go up to about $140. WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY to have a mask that is actually made for your eyes. Just about any LDS will have it done for you. I think that there is just the one company that does it and the name escapes me.. anyone???

Anyhow... it is the best way to go in my opinion..

Good Luck :D

I almost lost my contacts at class last week. I was doing the mask clearing thing and opened my eyes thinking I had all of the water cleared when I didn't. I surfaced and took my mask off and one of my contacts was stuck to my face. I couldn't believe it wasn't lost in the pool. Needless to say I bought a new mask since the incident(a low volume mask) and took it out to a lake to try and it was so much easier to clear. My old mask had a lot of volume so it took a lot more effort to clear. I think I still may take my contacts out though for the rest of my classes just to be safe.

I've been wearing my contacts since my first lake dive, and I haven't had a problem. Once I wore the contacts, I didn't even worry about it anymore. I finished all the classes, got my temp card, and have gone on a dive trip to a regional dive park. I wore them all day and did 3 dives. Everything worked fine. I didn't practice my mask clearing though, because I was working on my buoyancy control, but my contacts were very comfortable, and I didn't even think about them while I was diving.

I wear Contacts and i have no problems with them, in fact when i do mask clearing i can even open my eyes and not lose my lenses, now i dont open them completely.

Good luck

I did without my contacts for one of the pool clases and practiced mask clearing several times with eyes open and closed. Since then, I've worn contacts for all dives. Usually what I do is put in the last pair of disposables (3 month) and keep the current ones for above water use. It's much more enjoyable with I can see as far as possible. One of my usual dive buddies (Butch103) has prescription ground lenses in his mask which works fine for him.

I suggest you experiment to determine the best solution for you.

Dave
