Over the past few weeks I've started running my console underneath the chest strap on my BC. One of my friends commented on this and I explained that I started it during a drift dive with alot of hydrilla around and the risk of entanglement was high. I've just started doing it normally because it was comfortable and I have my gauges about a foot away from my face so I can check everything even in low visability. I haven't seen other people doing this but didn't know if there were any issues or problems that may be caused by arranging my gear in this way.

In my opinion you should keep it wherever you are most comfortable with it, but if your trying to do it DIR, (I am by no means a DIR guy) then I am pretty sure it has to be on the waist D-ring

i feed mine through the strap that goes across the cumberbund. Central, easy to reach and see, streamlined...

I'd say you are good with the chest, if it works for you.. perfect

When I started diving, I tucked it into the cumberbund strap too. Can't see any problem with the chest, but on the rig I used to use that would have left a long section of the console in dangly mode.

Of course, we're all different shapes and sizes, and the gear configuration could also be different so it might not be a problem for you.

Keep it where you need it , and keep it from dragging are the two most important things.

I used to route the console under my left shoulder strap armpit, across my chest and clipped off to right shoulder d-ring. That worked nicely for me but im growing more and more to dislike the bulk of a console and now just dive an SPG clipped off to left hip d-ring and use wrist gauges for compass/depth.

sounds like you found a solution that works for you

another option would be to clip it to a chest d-ring or waist d-ring. i prefer that because in the event that i get the hose entangled, it's easier to unclip the hose to free it than to work it out from under your strap

sort of like string, i use a wrist computer and an SPG clipped to my chest

Back in the day when dived with a console, I kept mine on a retractor that was clipped to my right shoulder D-ring. When diving in a horizontal position it laid in close to my body in such a way that all I had to do to read my computer was look down. The retractor made it possible for me to use the compass easily without having to unclip anything. It worked well ... until I discovered that wrist gauges worked even better (for me) ...
