Some places will have this rule and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with trying to sell you a class, they just do. .

I Call BS on this post, If some tourist destination will not let an Open Water diver with umpteen dives and knowledge dive because they did not "Put Another Dollar In" (PADI) For newbies, for an AOW Card then it ALL HAS TO DO WITH MONEY, And selling a class. It certainly cannot mean safety. FCK That New AOW with 9 supervised dives?? So what is the purpose if not trying to SELL? One Valid reason as Insurance is not valid nor is safety

BS?

nobody said their reasons had to be valid. Some people/places are just plain uptight.

No Damselfish, the BS Part is the part where you think this AOW requirement doesn't necessarily have anything to do with trying to sell you a class. Maybe OW Instructors today do not do as good a job teaching their students as we did in the past so they need that extra time

RTBDiver, you are wrong and I suspect you know it. The usual reason for an AOW requirement is all about liability and insurance, not money. Sure, there are some unscrupulous operators, just like there are some incorrect posts.

If you wish to limit your comments to Honduras, I'll stand down.

This being the Bay Islands and last I checked the Bay Islands were Honduran I thought it went without saying, Sure in the frivolous lawsuit happy and over litigious US some could believe it was a liability Issue, Ultimately however the leader in standards RSTC have only one depth limit for Recreational Scuba, many shops even pushing for the AOW requirement then hand you a Liability for where you agree to keep your diving within limitations of training and/or EXPERIENCE. Go Figure, Sorry for getting:offtopic:
